On the banks of the Douro river, in the peaceful village of Baião, Quinta da Ermida is a historic treasure evoking the elegance of 19th-century Portuguese high society. Commissioned by Counselor António Camilo de Almeida Carvalho, the property has carefully preserved its stately architecture and historic gardens, and is today one of the most authentic and distinctive rural tourism accommodations in the Douro Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Bordered to the west by the Zêzere stream, to the south by the Douro river itself, to the east by the Teixeira river, and protected to the north by hills, the estate occupies a truly exceptional setting. A chapel dedicated to Santo António presides over the eastern end of the south facade, adding a spiritual and heritage dimension to the guest experience. The property offers access to a private beach on the banks of the Douro where guests can moor their own boats, as well as a historic garden, outdoor pool and sun terrace. Guests can enjoy canoeing, fishing and hiking, while the restaurant serves dinners made with produce from its own vegetable garden and quinta wines. Just 50 metres away, the train station connects directly to Porto.
